# Zero-Copy ID

/ˈzɪəroʊ ˈkɒpi aɪ ˈdiː/, noun

1. Checking a person's identity at a counter without keeping a copy of their ID. The document is seen, the details are checked against the mobile carrier's subscriber record, and the ID goes back in their hand.
2. The mark a counter displays to say it works this way: Visto Cero.

Usage: “We moved the front desk to Zero-Copy ID, so the scanner is gone.”

## Every scan you keep is a record you have to defend.

Rental counters and front desks scan licenses because the scanner is sitting there. Each image then lives in a system that has to be secured, retained, disclosed if it leaks, and explained to the guest who asks why you have it.

The check you needed took seconds. The copy stays until someone deletes it.

## How a Zero-Copy ID check runs

1. **The guest shows their ID.** Staff look at it the way they always have. Nothing is scanned or photographed.
2. **The details are checked with the carrier.** The name and details the guest gives are compared with their mobile carrier's subscriber record, along with whether the SIM changed recently.
3. **The counter gets a result per field.** Match, no match, or unavailable. The counter never receives the carrier's record itself.
4. **You keep a receipt, and the ID goes back.** Your system stores that the check happened and what it returned. It stores no image of the document.

> Move decisions, not histories. The counter needs a yes or no it can act on. It does not need the guest's file.

## License it, then distribute it.

Every licensee displays the Visto Cero mark at the counter and can resell the license to peers in its market. The rental brand down the street becomes a distributor of the same standard your guests already recognize.

## Scope, in plain terms

### What a carrier match proves, and where it stops

A carrier match confirms who the line's subscriber is. It does not prove that the person holding the phone is that subscriber, so staff still look at the ID. Treat it as one signal in your check, not as complete identity verification.

### Legal guest registration

Where law requires you to record or report guest identity, you still do. Zero-Copy ID removes the extra copy your counter keeps for its own files.

### What's live today

Pilot licenses are open now. Carrier checks switch on as production access with carriers is approved, and your pilot terms will state which checks are live on day one.

### Who this is not for

Counters that must retain a document image by regulation, and teams looking for a full identity-proofing service. Zero-Copy ID is a narrower check on purpose.

## Request a pilot license

Pilot terms and pricing come back by email. No call required to get them.

Submit on the page at https://zerocopyid.com/#pilot, or as JSON (see /llms.txt for fields).
